Indices of the Universal Decimal Classification (UDC) are used to analyse the subject areas of articles published from 2011 to 2020. According to GOST R 7.0.7-2009 “Articles in journals...”, a UDC index is a compulsory attribute of any scientific article written in Russian. The above figure shows UDC indices of the authors’ papers in a tag cloud where the font size corresponds to the frequency of index occurrence on journal’s pages.

Being aware of the subject areas helps us to better search for new reviewers in order to speed up the publishing process and gather a pool of experts to examine scientific components of the submitted manuscripts. It is also important for our authors as an expert opinion regarding the material quality gives positive feedback from the researchers and improves the quality of the manuscript, which entails improvement of the quality of the journal as well.

In 72 % cases, the UDC for the articles includes root index “62”, corresponding to classification section “Engineering. Technology in general.” Hence, articles in the area of engineering are the basis of the journal contents, which complies with the definition of a scientific and technical journal as per GOST 7.60-2003 “A scientific and technical journal is a journal of research and practice containing articles, materials, and abstracts in engineering sciences.”

A quarter of articles are marked with UDCs of the subject area pertinent to the Corporation’s profile: radars, antennas, and electronic equipment. Meanwhile, 75 % of other UDC indices implies expansion of the scientific research interests of our authors and broadening of the subject area range. For instance, out of 343 articles over 2011–2020, half of UDC indices are unique. In other words, unique studies are published in the journal half the time. UDC indices repeating twice are registered in 8 % of cases, thrice – in 4 % of cases, and four times – in 1 % of cases.

Over the last four years, articles on gas dynamics, aircraft design, and testing of materials for them have been actively published in the journal. The number of articles with these subjects is growing; e.g., most part of No. 2 in 2018 was dedicated to section “Space Research and Rocket Science”, containing no articles on “Electronics. Radio Engineering.” The editorial office uses no quota limits for the sections and does not fill the journal taking into account each subject area. Instead, we strive to publish our authors as soon as possible, as mentioned in the messages to readers also emphasising the speed of article review and publication.

We are open for dialogue with our readers. Please send your proposals concerning expansion of journal distribution, promotion on the Internet, social media and international reference databases, improvement of the quality of reviews, and content to the email: press@almaz-antey.ru
